Pulau Betong derived its name from a raft-like transportation known as rakit. Made from bamboos, these rafts were a very popular mode of sea transportation that was used primarily to carry goods to and from various destinations since ancient times.

Longans are another fruit that grows seasonally usually in the month of May till July. Majority of the locals are fishermen of Malay and Chinese origin. Hence when you are here, you can buy fresh seafood products and cook some delicious meals. To get a feel of the traditional leisure activities of Pulau Betong, indulge in games like Congkak, Batu Seremban (also known as Batu Tujuh in northern dialect) or Sepak Takraw – they would probably be something you’ve never tried before. However, if you are the more adventurous sort, try mountain hiking for its sure to get your adrenaline rushing.
